Three years ago, I sat in my car in a parking lot, tears streaming down my face, feeling like my life was completely falling apart. My marriage was crumbling, I'd just lost my job, and I felt like I'd failed at everything that mattered.
Today, I'm writing to tell you that the God of restoration is real, and His faithfulness is beyond anything I could have imagined.
The Breaking Point
It's hard to share the darkest moments, but I believe my story might help someone who's going through their own breaking point right now.
I had spent years trying to hold everything together through my own strength. I was the "strong one," the one who had it all figured out. But beneath the surface, I was exhausted, anxious, and losing hope.
When everything fell apart at once, I finally had nowhere to turn but to God.
The Turning Point
I'll never forget the moment I truly surrendered. I was reading Psalm 34:18:
"The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
For the first time, I stopped trying to fix everything. I stopped pretending. I brought God my brokenness - all of it - and asked Him to do what only He could do.
What God Began to Do
The restoration didn't happen overnight, but God began working in ways I never expected:
- He brought godly friends into my life who prayed with me and for me
- He opened doors for a new job that was better than the one I'd lost
- He began healing my marriage as we both turned to Him together
- He gave me peace in the midst of uncertainty
- He showed me my worth was in Him, not in my circumstances
Lessons from the Journey
God Wastes Nothing
Romans 8:28 promises that God works all things together for good. Even my mistakes, even my pain - God used it all to shape me and draw me closer to Him.
Surrender is Not Weakness
I used to think surrender meant giving up. Now I know it means trusting Someone bigger and better than myself.
God's Timing is Perfect
I wanted instant answers, but God was teaching me patience, dependence, and faith. The wait made the restoration even sweeter.
Community Matters
I couldn't do this alone. God used His people to carry me when I was weak, to speak truth when I believed lies, and to celebrate with me as restoration came.
Where I Am Today
Today, my marriage is stronger than ever. Not because we're perfect, but because we've learned to put God first.
I have a job I love, but more importantly, I've learned that my identity isn't in my career.
I still face challenges, but now I face them with a peace that transcends understanding and a confidence in God's faithfulness.
If You're in the Breaking
Maybe you're reading this from your own parking lot moment - that place where everything feels broken beyond repair.
I want you to know:
- God sees you
- He is near to the brokenhearted
- This isn't the end of your story
- Surrender isn't giving up - it's letting God take over
- Better days are coming
Isaiah 61:3 says God gives us "beauty for ashes." That's not just a pretty verse - it's a promise I've seen fulfilled in my own life.
